Books are also the perfect way to expose children to vocabulary. Showing kids pictures of bugs helps them to make connections, too. Have you ever been on a bug hunt? I remember finding a cocoon when I was younger and watching it turn into a butterfly or catching fire flies at night with my sister. Check out our favorite books!
Allowing children multi-sensory opportunities helps brain development and also increases connections to new learning. We love sensory bins for that very reason. They are so purposeful for young learners and also, super FUN! Here is what you need to make this fun Bug (Insect) Sensory Bin:
Bug Sensory Bin Supplies
- Cooked Spaghetti Noodles
- Green Food Dye
- Blue Gravel or Rocks
- Plastic Bugs
- Scissors
- Tools for Exploring
Bug Sensory Bin Instructions
- Cook spaghetti noodles, drain, and rinse them very well.
- Allow the noodles to cool and then dye them green with
food dye. - Snip the noodles into small pieces with scissors. You want
the noodles to resemble grass. - Add the noodles and blue gravel to a bin, tray, etc.
- Add the bugs and allow your little ones to explore and have fun!
This bin will provide tons of fun for your young learner. Be sure to cover it when not in use so actual bugs don’t crawl in it. Also, since you are using spaghetti, know that it will eventually need to be thrown away or replaced. Encourage your child to wash their hands before and after play, too.
