Summer Giveaway!!

To kick off my new blog I am having a giveaway. Who doesn’t love free stuff right! I have created several units that I will eventually sell on teachers pay teachers, but for now I am just enjoying giving stuff away. I would like to give away my Ocean/Summer unit, which is 35 pages. To qualify all you need to do is: 1. Become a follower 2. Comment on something on my page 3.     The way I do Math centers is to have 6 centers (one fore each team) and then after 6 days, I introduce new centers. So… I don't just use the same centers over and over so I'm always needing new and easy to prepare math centers for my little ones!

    I love everything that I see so far. Your very creative and it's great that you teach kindergarten just like I do. I am a follower already and would love to see activities for the beginning of the school year. Also if you use the reading street series would love to see things related to the reading program. Keep up the great work!!!!!!

    I love your idea for Cinco de Mayo character study! We have a high percentage of Hispanic students and I know this would be a cute way to celebrate Cinco de Mayo and have some educational fun! Thanks for sharing!

    Greetings new friends! I wanted to respond to several of you who posted specific things. I know this is a little lengthy, but I wanted to respond to your thoughts and thank you for sharing with me!!

    Cheree, for math centers I try and stick to the same types of things but change the theme each week. My centers include blocks, science, board games (chutes and ladders, candy land, cooties…I will put these in the center for several weeks so they can learn to play and then have time to understand the lesson), scrolling (number writing), a number sense activity, and sometimes an art if I can tie it into math (create two ladybugs, put for spots on each, write a word problem ex. 2 ladybugs with 4 spots equals 6 spots in all). I will be working on thematic math units this summer!

    Do you use music to teach the states? A friend of mine taught her first graders all the state names by using songs. It was great! What grade do you teach?

    I will be creating lots of thematic units this summer to get ready for next year. I can’t wait to share them with you!

    In each thematic literacy unit I create, I will include activities and/or worksheets for beginning, middle, and end activities. I think I will create a unit with all of these specific activities too, pulling from each theme.

    I have already created two units with sight words, one is popcorn sentences and the other rainbow words. I took my school’s sight word list and create the worksheets with the order in mind, repeating words as necessary. This way you could put them in a center all year and they will provide more exposure to reading and write the words.

    I totally agree and I have the same problem. I am going to a few guided reading trainings this summer and I hope they will feed my frustrations with lots of ideas. I am thinking I will create some sort of journal or flash card activities that can be used for all books. I know with a small space whatever it is, it will need to be compact and quick so I can rotate my groups out. This definitely is on my short list. I will keep you updated.

    Hi! I am a new follower to your blog– love what I see!! I've been looking for activities that I can add for centers (sentence scrambles, -ed, -ing, blends…) Since I coteach and have 36 1st graders we are always needing many centers on a given day/week and that will meet the many different levels of our students.

    I would love to see a unit that includes BATS! We study them near Halloween. It keeps with the "mood" without a lot of worry for those that don't celebrate!

    I would like to see units that some of the other ladies mentioned.. bats (love do this at Halloween too), pumpkins/apples, snowmen. I like units that celebrate the holiday season but don't tie into one specific holiday!

    I would love to see more science projects and how teachers use anchor charts with their students. I have not seen an anchor charts presentation but would like to incorporate this with my students and would love to know tips on the best way to involve the students in this process.
