Baking Christmas cookies with my kids is one of my favorite holiday traditions. Each year, we spend an entire day making a dozen different kinds of cookies. We divide them up into holiday tins and give each family a cookie tin on Christmas. We make a few extra tins for neighbors and close friends, too.
Today, we are sharing one of those easy but fun activities to do with your kids. You can make this one from scratch, or you can just buy sugar cookie dough at the grocery store and spend more time decorating and eating the M&Ms. Either way, this is one that I am sure your kids will enjoy with not too much fuss. The end result is quite adorable.
INGREDIENTS
- Prepared sugar cookies or sugar cookie dough
- White cookie Icing (found in the cake decorating area)
- One family size bag of M&M’s
- One tube of black gel icing (found in the cake decorating area)
DIRECTIONS
Start by putting your white cookie icing on each cookie.
Start on the outer edge and work your way to the center. Make sure it’s a fairly thick layer.
Let your white icing harden and set.
Take your black gel and carefully make strands from one side of the cookie to the other, as shown. You can make your lines straight or curled, up to you.
Before your gel icing sets, place one of each color M&M on your black icing, as shown.
Let your cookie set. To speed up the setting process, you can place them in the freezer briefly.
Serve and enjoy! These cookies are the perfect addition to any classroom, family, or work holiday party. Check out our other cookie post for more ideas, too. Happy baking!
