My boys and I were elated to see an early screening of Disney’s Christopher Robin. James and Joseph are 18 and 19 so I was a little surprised that this beat out some of the summer action movies when it came to their must see list. On the way to the theater, I asked them why they wanted to see Christopher Robin and they both answered, “Mom, it’s a part of our childhood.” I secretly loved that this is something we shared. It was a piece of my childhood too.
The movie began and we were swept away to the most incredible scenery known as Hundred Acre Wood. It was a breath of fresh air. Seeing our favorite characters come to life was so exciting. Pooh and friends were not animated so this was a new experience. It felt like a grown up version of a childhood memory.
The characters were as charming as I remembered. Piglet was my favorite as a child and just as I had remembered. I think I loved her because she was always so fearful and self conscious. I just wanted to be her friend and tell her everything would be okay. In Christopher Robin, Eeyore provided so many laughs throughout the entire movie. As an adult, I looked at the characters so differently. I definitely could identify people in my life as Eeyores and Piglets. If I had to pick a character that I am most like, I would pick Pooh. I like to think I see the world as he does.
This movie is about friendship, adventure, loyalty and listening to your inner child. As an adult, we get wrapped up in “adulting” and forget what it’s like to step back, breath and have FUN. This movie will take you back to a place where your heart was young, innocent and full of JOY. I won’t spoil anything for you but instead plead with you to go see this movie. With kids, without kids, for your date night, whatever. It is a must see!
