This week my class participated in a class Valentine exchange where we made Valentines for kids at another school in Texas and mailed them. They had a good time. It made me laugh when we talked about having a “pen pal”. The kids were like, whatttt? My bad! Um, text partner? Oh…this generation doesn't understand the joy of writing letters…by hand! I remember when I was younger (and I would like to add that I am not THAT old yet) and I would race out to the mailbox every day hoping there was something in that metal box for me. Mostly bills for the parentals (ewww! If I only knew what I was in for!), but when I got a letter from someone, I would read it over and over. J Oh, happy days!
Anywho, after that fiasco fun adventure, we talked about what makes our heart smile. I LOVED this conversation. This is one of the reasons I teach kindergarten. I love the view of life from a kid prospective. They are not hindered by the struggles of the world (for the most part). They are free spirits who live to laugh and play. It’s just great to live your life through their eyes….to find joy in the little things. We completed this worksheet after our discussion. Here are a few student examples.
I like skating. I do not like (stinky) socks!
I like summer. I do not like skunks!
I like Christmas. I do not like skunks!
I am excited to team up with Ana from Ingles360 for her 14 days of love! Check out her blog for links to other bloggers to grab some pretty sweet freebies for your kiddos. So, for Day 11, I am giving you this activity worksheet. If you do this in your class, I would love to hear about your discussions and what your students wrote. If you are new to my blog, I hope you follow and stop by often. Happy early Valentine's Day! Click the picture to download the worksheet.
So, what makes your heart smile?
Also, I am nearing 1000 followers. Whoo hoo!! Several bloggers have donated to a special giveaway celebration where everyone will win everything donated. Stay tuned. It will be for only 24 hours when it happens to check back often!!!

My 6th grade teacher got penpals for us in Australia. It was so much fun running to the mailbox to see if I had a letter from her. 🙂 I totally get what you mean. Now we are FB friends and no longer write letters the old fashioned way.
I love this activity! Thank you for sharing.
