We are going on a bear hunt! Are you ready to join us? On February 29th I boarded a cruise for a few days and when I returned home on March 6th, it was a different world. Covid-19 had made its way to the United States and fear of the unknown had set in.
As an educator, my first response was to support teachers by creating home learning resources for parents. My husband and I also made the tough decision for my two year old and I to move in with my sister to quarantine because I am high risk for Covid-19 due to my bad asthma. He runs over a dozen grocery stores for Brookshire Brothers Grocer and is exposed to so many people. It was a tough decision but we felt it was necessary to keep me safe.
I put an idea on my Kreative in Life Facebook page for neighborhoods to go on a bear hunt. I shared it to my personal page too with hopes that my sister’s neighbors would participate for Bennett (and they did!). I had no idea it would take off the way it did. To date, that single post has reached millions and has been shared over 15,000 times.
The book and song, Going On A Bear Hunt, were always a student favorite when I was teaching kindergarten. If you are not familiar with it, watch this.
Bennett and I have been taking a walk every day through my sister’s neighborhood, singing Going on a Bear Hunt and looking for bears. It has been a welcomed distraction. Since my original post, I have received messages from all over the world sharing their Bear Hunt stories with me. I am just so thankful that this has been a fun but safe ways for families to do something together.
