I've been out of school for one whole week. I think my fried brain cells are finally reviving and coming back to life. The end of year is no joke people. It's a miracle we all make it out in one piece. My body hurt in places I didn't know it could hurt. Ha!
This week I went on family vaca. Back story: Every year we rent a lake house. It's a tradition. We try not to go back to the same lake twice. If you have been reading my blog for years, you know that those weeks have been filled with many adventures…remember that time I thought I was going to die? Yeah, that was not fun!
Anywho, five days before we were set to go, the owner emailed me and said the water levels were still a little high and there was still a ton of debris in the water. Remember, Texas just got off of the ark? We had rain everyday except THREE days in May. Yep, no recess for the entire month. It was loads of fun (insert eye rolling). Lots of “bless our heart” moments. Anyway (dang squirrels attack again), the owner of the lake house offered us a full refund which we gladly took. We were already super nervous to be in a house for an entire week with the possibility of no swimming, without wifi and one television. I love my kids and my husband but let's be honest, there are so many board games we can play before we kill each other. Ha!
So, last minute, we rented a house in Austin. It was only about an hour and a half from where we live. It was nice to get away, be so close to the lake and have our very own pool in the backyard. We definitely are water people, especially my daughter who thinks she is a mermaid.
Here are some pics of the house.
We went to Barton Springs one afternoon. Let me just tell you…it is beautiful but we were practically swimming in ice. I know, I know…it's a natural spring, what can we expect? Seriously, I have never been in water so cold. My husband jumped in. I told him that I think he may have just destroyed all of our future children. Ha! My daughter swam in her mermaid tale and people took pictures with her. We must get that girl a tip jar!
Also, just so you know (because I clearly did not) that tops are optional. (insert BIG eyes here) We were walking on the sidewalk and I looked up to see a very naked woman with rather large piercings on her top lady parts. I did a double take and then pulled my boys mouths off the ground. Whoa Nelly. Also, the lake area called Hippie Hollow is another space where all clothing is optional. I pulled into there and talked to the guy in the box. I asked if we could just drive around to see how crowded it was when I noticed a sign that only 18 and older were permitted. He then told me that it was a nudist lake. So, I said thanks and whipped my car around and left. Not that naked is bad. If you love your birthday suite, you go girl or boy. Me, not so much. I'm not a fan of hanging out naked either. Maybe that's just me. LOL We can be friends, just not naked ones. Ehem. Bwhahaha.
We did find a few great places to swim. I did get a little bit of a sunburn. My husband kept calling me Rudolph. Not. Okay. Ha!
We also went to Dave & Busters one night. So fun! Between the six of us, we got almost 7,000 tickets (which “only” cost us $100 is playing cards, ha). The kids did come away with prizes that made them happy and we played games for two hours so I guess it was worth it. 🙂
Before heading out to Dave & Busters, I posted this selfie as my profile pic on FB. It got a ton of likes and a ton of comments like “keep up the good work”, “Look out blondie”, etc. I totally cracked up because A. I haven't lost ANY weight recently…pretty sure I picked up the few pounds that you have lost and B. I haven't had my hair done in a few months. Actually, my next appointment is this coming week. So this is what I now know: A TAN does amazing things for me. Ha! Note to self: Must maintain tan. And also, I never have good hair days that look like this. Never.
Also (for the record) several people asked me on this pic what my skin secrets are. Well, if I am being completely honest, I am good to wash my face in the shower. On a good day, I slap some lotion on before I go to bed. Really that is it. I am really lucky I don't look terrible like someone has left me for dead on the side of the road most days. I am also a total cheater. (and not just on the diet, ha) My liner and brows are tattooed and I wear lash extension so I don't have to put on eyeliner or mascara ever. It's the best thing in the world!
